The page gives information about the development of the Medicine Guides website.

2004: Publishing Medicine Guides for all medicines, in all conditions began
2008: 2,500 Medicine Guides are now available on the website
(the
table below displays the conditions which have published Medicine Guides)
What's next?
The Medicine Guides website is constantly updated with new information. For example:
- Medicine Guides published for new or updated medicines
- More web links to sources of useful information, such as, to patient organisations that can give you more support
- More information to help you understand and take your medicine. For example videos about how a medicine works or should be taken. We currently have videos about using asthma inhalers and devices used in the management of diabetes.
Which Guides have been published and when?
The table below displays the conditions which have Medicine Guides. To use the table:
- Click on a therapy area. This will show you all the conditions in this therapy area.
- Click on the condition you are interested in. You will then be taken to a page which lists Medicine Guides for medicines used to treat that condition.
- Select your medicine.
Datapharm publishes the electronic Medicines Compendium (eMC). This contains Summaries of Product Characteristics (SPCs)
which are used by doctors, pharmacists and nurses to help them prescribe and use medicines correctly and safely. It also
contains Patient Information Leaflets (PILs) which are written for patients and are included in the pack with a medicine.
Medicine Guides are created from the SPCs on the eMC. All the information on the eMC website comes directly from
pharmaceutical companies www.emc.medicines.org.uk.
